They Can’t Give Napster Away For Free On Campus
Even after several years music subscription services remain a seldom used sideshow. They can’t even give Napster away for free on colleges campuses according to the Wall Street Journal.
For example, while Cornell’s program through Napster offers students free and legal downloads, the email introducing the service explained that students could keep their songs only until they graduate. "After I read that, I decided I didn’t want to even try it," says Mr. Petrigh, who will be a senior in the fall at the school.
Compatibility is another issue. "There isn’t that much we can do," acknowledges Aileen Atkins of Napster "If they have an iPod, they’re going to buy it on iTunes. It’s a fact of life."
Both Cornell and Perdue say that won’t be renewing with Napster next year.
