Insiders Look At Microsoft’s Argo iPod Killer
Tech-driven Digital Music News has taken an exhaustive look at the new Microsoft iPod/iTunes killer including all know aspects of the device code named Argo, it’s features (Wi-Fi, community) positioning (18-28 gamers), software and marketing. The gadget obsessed Engadget provides this photo of the player.
"Microsoft is aggressively aiming to capture “20 percent” of the iPod market, a goal that will be assisted by heavy advertising beginning in the fall. In terms of demographic, Microsoft is targeting the "18-28" age range, which skews younger than the “incumbent” iPod. Part of the plan to attract those users involves a “Live Anywhere” architecture, which includes WiFi-based sharing, a “we not me” community approach, and “connected entertainment”. Driving the project will be the Xbox team and philosophy…and the “intention is the use the Xbox and the Xbox community as an entry point” for the upcoming release." (DMN)
The Seattle Times has also gathered some insider information as well as commenting on the Argo’s importance to Microsoft. "Apple and others are becoming entertainment gateways, broadband-era broadcasters. If Microsoft doesn’t do the same, it would, heaven forbid, be just a software company."
