Digital Players Sales Double. Women and Adult Use Grows
A new report on digital music players shows that:
- 28% of Americans aged 12+ (an estimated 67 mln) own a digital music player, more than twice the 12% figure in 2005
- Ownership of players tripled among women from a8% in 2005 to 27% in 2006. Among men, it’s up to 28% from 18%
- Young demographics lead in overall use, but the biggest growth in the last year came from those 30-49 years oldownership is now 33% up from a mere 12% a year ago
- – Apple continues to dominate and has increased its share of all digital music players from 53% to 68% in one yeaR
- – Creative Labs has 6% of the market. RCA, Samsung and Sony each have onky a 2-3% share of the market
And an extensive new report for the British Music Rights trade group predicts a positive outlook for the music industry with consumer use of legal digital music projected to grow five times by 2009 compared to 2004. (PDF)
