Apple Rumored To Buy EMI…And The Cow Jumped Over The Moon

From the UK’s Independent via Coolfer – "Takeover rumors did the rounds again yesCowmoonterday, with  more talk of a link-up with Warner Music…(stock market insiders)also speculated that Apple, the computing group that has revolutionized the music industry, may bEmi_2e considering an offer for EMI. Apple’s iTunes is by a long way the market leader in music downloading but does not own any content. One trader said: "Media assets are out of favor with investors and have been for a long while, but there are definite signsApplelogo_11 the cycle may be turning."

We’re betting this rumor is just speculation.  After all how difficult would iTunes negotiations with other labels become if parent Apple owned competitor EMI?  And if Apple for some reason wanted to get directly into the music content business; why not just do their own creative tech centered start-up?

  1. Why would Apple want to do that? EMI back catalog and current rooster don’t worth the bloated media execs pays they have to face.
Apple might as well build a new media company from scratch and signing up new and upcoming bands.
the electronica scene alone, nevermind indie rock will propel Apple’s profit to buy the planet by the end of the decade.

  2. Sony looks really bad (the other half of EMI) Microsoft is killing them fresh with the gaming war. Apple is killing them on music side.
And Sony has serious internal management problem right now. The entertainment side vs the hardware side don’t mash. Both side end up killing each other.
With recession looming and entertainment industry pool shrinking, Sony might actually be in serious trouble. Sony == the RCA of the ’00?

Ailing stock prices, poor movie sales and a failing UMD (Sony PSP media) market, might add up to a low-cost buyout in Sony’s future. I personally see this happening regardless of the Blu-ray market by 2014. I for one can just see the looks on Sony’s main competitors faces at this time, all the gleaming in the world coming from One Microsoft way ( the road both Nintendo HQ and MS HQ reside on) as this could turn out to be the largest upset in consumer electronics history.
All this added up, you have to ask yourself. Will the next Playstation you purchase post-PS3 run a Microsoft operating system and have backwards compatibility for PS1 PS2 PS3 Xbox and Xbox360? Putting your rabid love for Sony aside, this doesn’t seem as far fetched as it once did, when the Sony name wasn’t covered in enough red tape to fill the Grand Canyon.
