Steve Jobs Macworld Keynote Highlights Music
Not surprisingly Steve Jobs’ keynote this morning at MacWorld started with and heavily highlighted music. After all, according to Jobs, Apple sold an amazing 14 million iPods last quarter ( "…that is over a hundred every minute, 24/7 throughout the quarter. And it still wasn’t enough.") for a total of 42 million so far. The iTunes music store has hit 850 million total downloads and controls 83% of the marketplace. 8 million videos have also been downloaded since a mid-October launch.
His music related new product announcements were less than revolutionary although not unimportant. Chrysler has become the first US manufacturer to offer iPod compatibility in it’s autos and Jobs claims a surprising 40% of all cars sold in 2006 will offer iPod integration. He also announced a nifty new iPod accessory that is both a remote control and an FM tuner. (photo via Engadget). Good stuff, but we honestly expected more from the dominate player in the digital download world…
