Universal Music, Clear Channel Form Concert CD Partnership
According to Digital Music News, "Universal Music Group has recently finalized a live concert deal with Instant Live, a division of Clear Channel."
"Instant Live offers concertgoers a CD memento of the show immediately after the performance conclusion. The company can deliver a recording of the just-completed performance six minutes after the last note is played. Now, Universal Music will position a number of its artists within the Instant Live offering, and capture some of the excitement and revenue…"
"Financial details of the arrangement were not revealed, but the move is part of a steady move by majors to widen their business model. The Big Four have traditionally earned most of their revenues from the sale of pre-recorded CDs, and not….merchandising, live concerts, and sponsorships. But decreasing disc sales are putting more pressure on the labels to widen their outlook, and repair what has been a flawed business structure…"
