CA Fruit Growers Deliver Free Apple iTunes Tracks
One has to wonder why record labels and even some acts and managers have been so slow to jump into the kind of smart cross-promotions that we see iTunes and other download services doing. According to Digital Music News, "…The California Tree Fruit Agreement, which represents California peach, plum, and nectarine farmers, will offer free (Apple) iTunes Music Store downloads in exchange for purchases. Specifically, three pounds of fruit along with a Fresh Express salad pack will yield three free iTunes downloads. The "Music to Your Ears" giveaway was announced Monday, and follows an earlier iPod giveaway involving Wrigley’s Gum in the UK and Ireland…"
"The latest partnership is part of an ongoing move by advertisers to reach buyers through digital music promotions. Several major brands have recently made announcements, including Heineken (with Wippit and RealNetworks) and Nestle (with Napster). Other massive brands have also recently made moves, including Pepsi (with iTunes) and McDonald’s (with Sony Connect). Those giveaways could help to buoy paid download levels further by offering exposure to a much wider demographic, while testing consumer willingness to pay for tracks after the giveaway period ends."
