Altnet teams with new indie labels for P2P
Altnet, one of the technology companies using peer-to-peer as a legitimate entertainment distribution platform, has announced deals with six additional labels. Altnet president Lee Jaffe said the deals indicated an understanding that music and video could be shared among fans at little cost to the distributor while preserving copyright integrity and business models. Flexibility is another attraction, he said. Artists and labels can charge whatever they want for the material, including giving them away as a promotion, and can set their own rules for number of plays or amount of time.
