Threads adds 1M daily, topping 320 monthly active users

“I expect Threads to continue on its trajectory to become the leading discussion platform and eventually reach one billion people over the next several years,” Facebook and Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg told analysts. “Threads now has more than 320 million monthly actives and has been adding more than one million signups per day.”

By comparison, Twitter/X had more than 600 million monthly users in May, but that number is declining.

With Twitter replacements and TikTok clones popping up everywhere, it can be hard to know what’s worth of your attention and marketing efforts.

With numbers like this and Threads integration with Instagram and Facebook, it seems increasingly wotrth adding to the mix.

Threads vs Bluesky

Another alternative is Bluesky. Here is an comparison we did of the two.

Threads and Bluesky have distinct characteristics and approaches.

1. Ownership and Origin

  • Threads: Developed by Meta (formerly Facebook), Threads is closely tied to Instagram. It aims to compete with Twitter by leveraging Meta’s massive user base and resources.
  • Bluesky: A decentralized social media platform backed initially by Jack Dorsey, co-founder of Twitter. It operates independently and is focused on a federated, user-controlled model.

2. Decentralization

  • Threads: Currently centralized under Meta’s control. However, Meta has expressed intentions to integrate ActivityPub, which could allow Threads to interact with decentralized networks like Mastodon in the future.
  • Bluesky: Fully decentralized from its inception, using the AT Protocol. This means users can choose their servers and have more control over their data.
