In July, White Stripes co-founder Jack White surprised fans with the release of his latest album, “No Name” with a lack of fanfare.
Instead of a traditional album release, White surprised fans by giving the 12-inch away for free, without providing any details about it, to shoppers at Third Man Records retail outlets in Detroit, London, and Nashville.
The record, which was pressed in white vinyl, did not list track information and was stamped with ‘No Name’ on the label, along with the legends “Heaven and Hell” and “Black and Blue” etched into the dead wax area on each side.
The record initially received little, if any, marketing support with news spreading primarily by word of mouth among White’s fans.
“We won’t be announcing dates in advance so much. We will be mostly playing small clubs, back yard fetes, and a few festivals…”
Now White appears to be following a similar course with a supporting tour for No Name.
On Tuesday, White took to social media to reveal tour plans that are almost as cryptic as the record release.
According to White, he is touring in support of ‘No Name’ but said that shows will be announced with as little lead time as possible.
“We won’t be announcing dates in advance so much, we will be mostly playing smalll (sic) clubs, back yard fetes, and a few festivals here and there to help pay for expenses,” he said.
“Shows will be announced as close to the show date as possible, some shows we won’t even decide to do until that morning,” he added.
He also took the opportunity to wax philosophical about touring (one presumes) stating:
“I also want to walk through orchard fields and grab apples off of trees at will and fill my belly full that fruit if the desire strikes me. I’m looking for that cool breeze you know.”
