10,000 musicians answer Smashing Pumpkins open call for new guitarist

Ten thousand musicians have answered an open call by The Smashing Pumpkins looking for a new guitarist.

Lead singer Bill Corgan, guitarist James Iha, and drummer Jimmy Chamberlin are looking to replace guitarist Jeff Schroeder, who announced his departure from the Smashing Pumpkins after 16 years.

Time is of the essence since the group is supporting Green Day on their global The Saviors Tour and their own with Weezer opening this year.

“The band has received over 10,000 submissions for the position of additional guitarist,” reads a tweet. “The pile of audition tapes are so voluminous, in fact, that the post noted that there are currently 8 people working full-time to review each and every one.”
