A musician’s guide to Spotify for Artists’ Discovery Mode

Looking for a way to spread your music a little further on Spotify? Discovery Mode could do just the trick. Here’s how this Spotify for Artists feature can help music marketers find new listeners for the tracks that need it the most.

Here’s the rundown…

With Discovery Mode, artists and labels can choose songs that are a priority for them, and Spotify’s system will add that signal to the algorithms that determine personalized listening sessions. With this, whatever tracks you choose get a better chance of being recommended to new listeners. Although it doesn’t guarantee your music is going to be pushed over anyone else, it take into consideration if listeners are engaging with your songs or not and works to recommend better material for them in the future.

It’s all about balance.

How does it work?

“We believe our personalized recommendations should also be informed by artists — their priorities and what they have to say about their music. With Discovery Mode, they can turn it on when it’s working. Turn it off when it’s not. The control is in their hands, always.” explains Spotify.

To get started, follow these steps:

• Log in to artists.spotify.com.
• Go to Campaigns and Discovery Mode.
• Click Set up [month] campaign. (Note: You can set up a campaign between the 11th of the month and 12 AM UTC on the last day of the month.)
• Select the tracks you’d like to include.
• Review your campaign and click Submit.

That’s it! — Campaigns start on the 1st of the following month. You can make edits to your track submissions up until 12 AM UTC on the last day of the current month.
