Is it time to scrap Twitter? Is Mastodon the next ‘must-use’ social network?

There is a lot of turmoil in the Twitterverse, but should you jump ship to a new social network? Is Mastadon the next go-to social network, and could it “replace” Twitter?

On this latest edition of the Music Biz Weekly podcast, Michael & Jay talk about Twitter and Mastodon as well as concert photography and photo passes for concerts from both the point of view of a photographer and the artist.

  1. If you think you haven’t been shadow-banned on Twitter, how many of your Tweets have gotten any replies? On Mastodon, the first thing people notice is that many people see, and respond to their posts. It’s a huge increase over Twitter. Unless you’re somehow going to increase Twitter revenue, you’re yelling into the wind. The AI will, and does, bury your words.

On Mastodon, create a profile, with some sort of graphic/picture (don’t use the default), then send out a post introducing yourself, and be sure to include the #introduction hash tag, include your admin’s id, something like @Jerry@hear-me.social, so they can boost your introduction to everyone who follows them. And as you post, and respond, you’ll be surprised how many people are seeing them, posting them, and liking them.

When you post, use hashtags because, unlike on Twitter, people follow #hashtags and posts with those hashtags that your server sees, will automatically go into your timeline.

If you’re not on Mastodon, give it a try, and see for yourself how engaging you really are.

Also, you hardly get trolls and nasty people because moderation is usually very strict on the instances. Before signing up, read the server rules to make sure they match the environment you want to be under.
