Greenroom to rebrand as Spotify Live and move to main app
Spotify will reportedly rebrand its Greenroom live sessions app as Spotify Live and incorporate it into the main Spotify app further cementing the streamer as the home of all things audio.
Social audio apps have faded along with the pandemic and Spotify’s Clubhouse competitor has failed to gain real traction. Twitter Spaces, Live Audio Rooms on Facebook also offer competing platforms as do LinkedIn, Reddit and Discord.
But Greenroom’s move to the main Spotify eco-system should increase interest.
The shift is expected in the second quarter of this year, sources tell Bloomberg, Further proof of the move was also found in a beta version of Spotify’s iPhone app by developer Steve Moser.
Live Radio?
One obvious addition that could also increase Greenroom/Spotify Live adoption and farther CEO Daniel Ek’s stated goal to replace radio would be making Spotify’s 70 million track music library available to live DJ’s on the platform much like Amazon Music’s Amp which launched earlier this month.
