Spotify Acquires Music Machine Learning Startup Niland
During yesterday's Music Biz conference, Spotify's Troy Carter shared that Spotify was becoming an "anticipatory" service, delivering the right music at the right moment. Carter's prescience was likely driven by Spotify's acquisition of music machine learning startup Niland, announced this morning.

Spotify has acquired Paris-based music machine learning startup Niland. Details of the deal were not disclosed. Niland was founded in 2013.
Niland used Artificial Intelligence (AI startup) to deliver advanced music search and recommendation. In addition to improving Spotify's music recommendations. Niland powered search is also deliverable via API, which Spotify could offer to developers to build a new generation of intelligent music applications built on top of the music streamer.
"The team from Niland will join our New York office and help Spotify continue innovating and improving our recommendation and personalization technologies resulting in more music discovery which benefits both fans and artists," Spotify said in a statement. "Their innovative approach to AI and machine learning based recommendation systems is a perfect fit for the Spotify team."
