Apple Music Launches Its Own Awards Show, Guess Who Won?

A week after Spotify launched its first awards show focused on Latin America and based entirely on data, Apple Music has followed with an awards show of their own.

The Apple Music Awards, mostly handpicked by Apple Music’s curators with an eye clearly on the charts, announced its first winners alongside yesterday’s launch.

Billie Eilish also won the Album of the Year and with her brother Finneas the Songwriter of the Year awards, for “WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP, WHERE DO WE GO?” which was Apple Music’s most played album of the year with more than a billion streams.

Breakthrough Artist of the Year is Lizzo, for “Cuz I Love You” and Song of the Year is “Old Town Road” by Lil Nas X, Apple’s most streamed track of 2019.

“The Apple Music Awards are designed to recognize the passion, energy, and creativity of the world’s favorite artists. The musically diverse group of inaugural winners have sparked deep social conversation, influenced culture and inspired our customers around the world. We couldn’t be more excited to celebrate them,” said Oliver Schusser, VP of Apple Music International Content.

The Apple Music Awards will be streamed live on Thursday Dec. 4th at 6:30PM PST from the Steve Jobs Theater in Apple HQ and include a performance by Eilish.
