New Spotify Kids App Launches In Beta
Spotify has launched in beta a new standalone app for children called Spotify Kids. Exclusive to Premium Family subscribers, the new app is intended for children 3 and older.
Currently, the app is only available in Ireland and filters out explicit content, in addition to offering kid-friendly playlists that span a variety of categories including Movies & TV Shows, Top Hits, Activities, Spotify Originals, Stories and more.
According to Spotify, the content, which is edited by actual humans and does not rely on algorithms to determine its content, has been designed to protect kids’ privacy and give parents peace of mind with parental controls. It also enables parents to choose between ‘Audio for Younger Kids’ or ‘Audio for Older Kids’ so that they can customize their child’s user experience based on their specific age and needs.
Spotify’s Chief Premium Business Officer Alex Norström said: “We are excited to be expanding the Spotify Premium Family experience with a dedicated app just for our youngest fans. Spotify Kids is a personalized world bursting with sound, shape and color, where our young listeners can begin a lifelong love of music and stories.”
Though the app is currently available only in Ireland, Spotify says that it will soon be rolled out globally to all markets that support its Premium Family plan.
