More On The Korn EMI Merger

The is an interesting analysis in HitsDailyDouble.com on the Korn/EMI "merger".  It may be a great template for future deals that serve to save an ailing recording industry or it may be another nail in the coffin of artists’ independence and creativity.

"The challenge facing the two parties, says one in the know, was to find a way to align the interests of the label with those of the artist, so that the decisions made would ultimately benefit both parties. The concept behind this arrangement, the same source clarifies, was to make the pie bigger for everyone, so that the artists and their partners both make money. " – Hits

It’s interesting that in a time when digital innovations make creating, distributing, and promoting music less expensive and more direct that an artist who one would believe has all of the money they could ever need chooses this path.  A cynic would say it’s all about money and since it’s LA, The Firm and EMI, they’d probably be right.
