This Week’s Music Industry Hits & Misses

HITS –  NY Attorney General Eliot Spitzer for not only getting Universal to pay $12 million in a payola settlement, but for embarrassing the FCC into action and releasing enough details to confirm to the world the promo practices that insiders have know all along.

Warner Music for their partnership with SK Telecom to develop mobile music delivery in tech savvy S. Korea and perhaps thorughout Asia.

MISSES –  Remember last week’s whining by Flea about an unauthorized advance copy of their new release available via P2P?  The Red Hot Chili Peppers make the list for the second week in a row as their new CD is predicted to debut at #1 with more than 400,000 sold.  Or should this be considered a HIT as all of the buzz may have actually helped sales?

– Continental Airlines for offer a measly five free iTunes downloads with the purchase of a plane ticket.  Spend $500 and get $4.95 worht of music that can only play on an iPod. Wow !
