CD Sales Slip But Digital Turns The Tide

Cds_color_12For the first half of the year US CD sales dropped to 270.6 million units down 4.2% compared with the same period last year. But Nielsen SoundScan figures showed digital sales giving the industry a lift. Sales of full digital albums jumped 126% to 14.7 million during the first half of the year with digital tracks sales up 77% to 281 million.

Combined overall sales show a 1/10th of a percentage point increase over the first half of 2005. Not much, but good news for an industry that has known only decline in recent years.

  1. Does that number even make sense? I am listening to more music than before. And true to the number, I am spending approximately the same.
I start to wonder if I am a typical music listener.
