Hypebot’s New Music Industry Briefing For Monday July 31th, 2006
– The Rolling Stones are offering short segments of sound board feeds via phone (cell or otherwise) live as the concert happens via Listen Live Now. Can $1.99 for seven minutes be satisfying? (press release)
– Verizon Wireless is eliminating the monthly $15 fee for its music download service and launching an LG made cell that can hold 1,000 songs. (AP)
– Coby delivers a 128 meg mp3 player that sells for $20. (cNet)
– Pandora founder Tim Westergren is touring the country meeting with fans of his service. (News.com)
– iTunes users are getting vocal about delayed digital releases. (Reuters)
The worst part about the Rolling Stones/Cingular gig, aside from the cost as you mention, is the fact that they were concerned enough about people ditching the concert venue to just listen via phone that they are limiting listening to only 14 minutes per user. What’s the point?
Oh, and I went to the Pandora meetup when Tim was in NYC a few months ago. Some of it’s a little outdated now, but if anyone’s interested in what was discussed, feel free to read the write-up on my blog http://studioues.blogspot.com/2006/06/funny-thing-happened-on-way-back-from.html
$1.99 / 7 minutes? whoa …. and nobody can’t even tell if the transmission is real or canned mailbox type of audio.
