Kill Rock Stars’ Sabin Shares “What Is Working?”
In conjunction with US. independent music trade group A2IM (American Association Of Independent Music), we’re asking indie professionals: In this fractured media landscape, what is working? What outlets and tools are helping your artists build an audience?
Among the first to respond was Portia Sabin of Seattle punk and alternative label Kill Rock Stars (Sleater-Kinney, Unwound, Deerhoof, Bikini Kill).
"MySpace is great for allowing people to hear the music, and sites like imeem and YouTube allow people to follow the band’s antics via videos. Licensing music to movies and TV shows get people Googling and checking out MySpace, and a feature on iTunes is probably the biggest thing for improving awareness.""And of course good old-fashioned touring cannot be beat for increasing awareness and gaining fans. It also increases sales, which we’ve seen over and over again with our artists."
