Twitter Tests New Feature. Are You On The List?

Twitter is beta testing a new feature called Lists with limited number of users before a wider roll out.  The motivation behind Lists is the realization that once you start following a large number of people keeping track of incoming tweets gets overwhelming.  By creating group lists of tweets from friends, colleagues, bands you love or family, handling a flood of tweets should get easier.

How To Use Twitter Lists:

Twitter lists will be public by default, but can be made private.  The lists that you've created are linked from your profile; so other Twitter users can then subscribe to your lists.  Labels could create a list of their artists. Bands in a genre or city might band together to build their scenes with a joint Twitter List.

I'm already planning a joint Twitter list of music industry bloggers and influencers (analysts, thinkers, execs and more).  If you've got ideas about who should be included (including yourself) leave a comment below or send me a direct Tweet @hypebot.

You can sign up for Hypebot's Twitter feed here.  I'm increasingly using it to reach out with additional info, breaking news, polls, etc.

  1. Could be a very useful feature as you point out. Although many labels still need to take the initial steps of integrating and promoting Twitter (and other social media communities) on their own sites. Make your verified label and artist accounts easy to find to your fan. Wherever they are looking most frequently.

  2. When it comes to tech, music and diversity; I am definitely out in front in terms of research gathering, analyzing so holla if you want to connect – @mediaempress

  3. As I already use TweetDeck to filter the noise, I don’t know if I will utilize this feature of Twitter. It may be too little, too late, if you ask me. We shall see though.
I would love to be added to the “music industry bloggers and execs” list. You can find me at http://twitter.com/HubertGAM

  4. It would be nice to not have to rely on the 3rd party apps to manage all the different discussions – I’d like to be included on your list @staceygamble for music business / social media and @alluresound for recording, artist news, industry updates

  5. Would love to be included on your list. I am a Music Manager, managing Artists, Writers and Producers. I also lecture at various Music Schools in the UK on Tribal Marketing and New Music Industry Practises.
