UMG To Release Out-of-Print CDs Via CreateSpace

image from www.2webvideo.com Universal Music Group has partnered with CreateSpace, an Amazon.com company, to release classic out-of-print CDs using their disc on demand service. Titles featured will be recordings by artists such as B.B. King, Loretta Lynn, Patti LaBelle, Judy Garland, the Mamas & the Papas, Louis Armstrong, and Chuck Berry.

Now, all four major labels are now using CreateSpace to make their catalogs available. This allows them to bring their content to market with little risk.

  1. So question: where are these CDs sold? I just googled the first title, and the CD is on amazon.com. Is that the CD produced by CreateSpace? I am just wondering for the future when CDs all but disappear from the retail space and I still would like to buy a CD. Will Amazon.com still serve those needs? Where else can one order a CD going forward?

  2. All food for thought – and with increased competition in the non-profit technology sector in 2012 – it’ll be interesting to see what happens to all those organisations currently on RE7.
