10 Richest Men In UK Music & 5 Young Millionaires
The UK Sunday will publish lists of the richest men in women in UK music this week, but have offered a sneak preview. The list of 10 Richest is a Whose Who of music's old guard. but a partial look at the Top 20 Music Millionaires offers a few surprises:
- Clive Calder (Zomba,Jive) £1.3bn/US$2.14bn
- Andrew Lloyd Webber £680m/US$1.1bn
- Sir Cameron Mackintosh £675m/US1.1bn
- Sir Paul McCartney £495m/US$815m
- Simon Fuller £375m/US$617m
- Simon Cowell £200m/US$329m
- Sir Elton John £195m/US$321m
- Sir Mick Jagger £190m/US$313m
- Sting £180m/US$296m
- Keith Richards £175m/$US$281m
In the top 20 young music millionaires, most of the top earners are women:
- Classical-crossover singer Katherine Jenkins (£13m)
- Cheryl Cole, Leona Lewis and Katie Melua (all £12m)
- Joss Stone (£9m)
Charlotte Church (£8m) is in sixth place, with Adele, Lily Allen, Natasha Bedingfield, Duffy and Amy Winehouse a joint ninth with (£6m each).
These ‘rich list’ figures for musicians are usually little more than guesswork. For example, last year’s figure for Lily Allen was based partly on the value of her house, but she pointed out that she had a huge mortgage on it. And I doubt that Joss Stone has anything like £9 million.
