Join Hypebot’s Holiday Online Networking Party & Introduce Yourself To Our Community

image from www.hypebot.com (UPDATED) It's become a holiday tradition for Hypebot to host an online networking party.  Most of the music business shuts down during the holidays, but we keep publishing on a lighter schedule. And like us, many readers are using this down time to work on exciting projects to unveil in 2011. Others are just looking for a constructive solution to the holiday work day blahs. Get involved:

In the comments section below, tell us a little about yourself, what you're working on and what excites you (PG-13 only).  Include links that you think might be of interest to others and I suggest adding your name and email or some way that other Hypebot readers interested in collaborating can find you. Shameless plugs are allowed.

  1. Hey everyone,
My Name is Carl. I’m the VP of marketing at Nimbit ( http://www.nimbit.com ). We’re a direct to fan platform. I decided to get into this industry, when at age 15 I had an epiphany when reading the thank you section of some liner notes that there were people in the world who helped people make music. I first worked for a record label, then realized that they were not necessarily in the business of helping musicians, so then I did a long stint at Cakewalk the music software and hardware company, where we helped musicians take direct control of their creative and recording process. About a year an a half ago, I left Cakewalk to join Nimbit, and now I help musicians make a living with the music they create.
I’m pretty excited about a new feature we added to the Nimbit platform yesterday. I haven’t formally announced it yet, so I guess I’m doing it here. Now in every cart, there is an optional “Support this Artist” slider where fans can add an donation. What I think is cool about this, is that even if you’re giving away a free track, there could be an opportunity there for people to support you. You’ll see some more formal news about this later today.
Lastly, I have a side project called Masters of Sound ( http://www.mastersofsound.net ) , where we’re getting recording engineers and producers, along with the artists they worked with, to tell the stories of how and when they captured their greatest hits. These people have contributed immensely to popular culture, and are largely unrecognized, so our goal is to ive them their due.
Anyway, I’ve probably typed enough. Nice to meet you all, looking forward to learning more about you. Happy holidays, Carl

  7. Hi all,
    I’m Michael Shoup and I’m a Singer/Songwriter who often promotes other Singer/Songwriters…
What? Yep, you read that correctly.
Being a consistently touring artist in the industry for years, I want to help other artists learn and understand the ins and outs that have taken me so long to learn myself. So, now I write music and help others get their music heard.
I’ve also written a few articles for Music Think Tank:

  8. Hello & Merry Christmas!
My name is Aaron Gibson. I spent 2011 laboring on my introductory solo album after years of working in bands as a songwriter, bassist and singer. Keep your ears perked up for the February release. The sound? My producer says “um, you actually are different! It’s like Jack Johnson mixed with the Red Hot Chili Peppers”. I’ll let you know when it drops. You can hear a sample of one song that blends Disco, funk, and Tool, and an adult contemporary Christmas song at my website.
    Merry Christmas!

I’ve been told the song could go over in the christian market but I’m more of a George Harrison influence, than religious guy if you know what I mean. Let me know what you think.

  10. Hi errbody!, and thx Hypebot (knew i liked you guys),
I am Mike and I run the website Playlist Professional. The idea is to have a website of nothing buy quality playlists to listen to. I’m a retired DJ of 20 years. I also enjoy all of the streaming concerts that are happening. 2012 will be a Music Explosion!

  13. Hi folks,
My name is Brian Bergeron. I’m a folk-rock songwriter from the Bay Area. I’ve been reading Hypebot for the last year or so. It’s been an invaluable resource!
I just released an EP called Hourglass at the beginning of the month. I hope to have a more solid web presence in the New Year (thanks to many articles on this site!) and move from 125 gigs this year (performing a combination of covers and originals) to more of a focus on my own original music.
I enjoy networking with other musicians or music industry folks so get in touch!

  14. My name is Graham Smith-White. My main musical project is The Sunrise Review. I use solar power to write and record music in inspiring natural settings. I released the first EP of music inspired by the Pacific Ocean about a month ago. There is a Kickstarter campaign to help fund the next round of music inspired by the Pacific Ocean. I am planning a big 2012 with much more crowd-funding and crowd-sourcing, including community recording sessions, fan-funding and listener participation and interaction.
I also have been working on developing my local music scene in Portland, OR with an initiative called Fair Trade Music. It’s based on Fair Trade in other industries and is a positive way for musicians and fans to recognize tangible support in live music. The initiative has been endorsed by the International Executive Board of the AFM and we are preparing to spread across the US and Canada in 2012.

  15. Hi there — This is Jacob Jones, marketing director for Artist Growth. We’re a tech start-up based in Nashville that launches on January 17th and was just introduced to HB readers earlier this week. Thanks Bruce – https://www.hypebot.com/hypebot/2011/12/exclusive-look-inside-artist-growth-musician-career-management-platform-video-.html
Myself and the founders of Artist Growth have spent years on the road touring, everywhere from the eastern seaboard to Catmando, and back again. a bunch. It’s safe to say we have seen the inside of our share of Denny’s and Motel 6. It was those hard earned years that led us to Artist Growth.
The platform was created by touring musicians-turned-entrepreneurs with the goal of giving artists and managers a career management tool and access to resources that will help them make a stand in the industry. Whether you’re an artist on your own, or you’re managing a nationwide stadium tour, Artist Growth will be that extra, often-relied on, insanely organized member of your team. We’ll give step by step directions and push calendar notifications for upcoming events AND help file your receipts, setlists and merch inventories, among myriad other services – all in one intuitive mobile-friendly tool.
We’re always on the look out for new partners to enhance our services, we need industry experts to help provide mentoring content and hope to have beta tests available soon. We look forward to meeting all of you!
Thanks for taking the time to read.
    Cheers,
    Jacob Jones

I work as freelance a&r for a well known label & distributor in germany. i am looking for labels and artists for physical & digital distribution and new ways to promote and sell music.(no newcomers sorry!). at the moment i am really digging into that direct to fan and social marketing thing. there´s quite a few companys out there in the us or uk who are offering tools and consulting which is all very interesting. (I´m not sure if there is any company for dtf marketing here in germany.) I´m still figuring out how labels can use this the best way, what it costs etc. and I am happy for every advice to get things started with my artists. I am also happy to meet you at upcoming midem in cannes discussing direct to fan business options.
Now I want to wish you all a Merry Christmas & a good start in 2012. Cheers!

  21. Hello, I am new to Hypebot.com and would like to that the “stop online piracy act” is wrong for business.

  22. Hey everybody!
My name is Matt Lane (Twitter: @mattlaneb). I’m a senior in the Music Industry Management program at Ferris State University and the Programming Coordinator for Entertainment Unlimited, Ferris’s campus programming board. I spent the past summer interning with Live Nation in Detroit and I will be attending the NAMM Show in Anaheim this coming January on a scholarship. It’s my mission to find a job in the entertainment industry when I graduate in May.
The Music Industry Management Association(MIMA) here at Ferris is doing some really amazing things. We put on two concerts a year, a pop/rock concert in the fall and and electronic music concert in the spring. This year, our fall concert, which we call Autumn Alive, featured Taking Back Sunday and The Maine. Our electronic concert, Turn Up The Good, featured The Glitch Mob and Virtual Boy last spring. This year’s Turn Up The Good takes place on March 24th. Check out the Facebook page here: https://www.facebook.com/TurnUpTheGood

  23. Hi there.
I’m Stephanie, a music-lover. I’m a Budget Performance Analyst by day and a music business enthusiast by night. On my idle time, I read up on news and trends of the industry, watch interviews with the execs of the business and converse with other like-minded people. I’d like to think i’ve always wanted to be in the music industry, but never had the guts to acknowledge the dream because I don’t know anyone who’s on a similar path. The business side of music is fascinating to me. How artists market their music, how audiences respond to incentives to pay for music, and how there are infinite business models that artists can adopt or innovate to better suit their strategy. I’ve been told there are risks going into the music industry as it is vulnerable to the fast-paced technological change, music becoming more accessible then ever. The challenge now, for me personally, is to find business models and strategies that will help artists (specially those that are assigned) generate revenue and at the same time stay true to their craft.
My project for next year is to quit my job and pursue my dreams of getting into the music industry.
In the spirit of shameless promotion, do check out Kina Grannis, a singer-songwriter from LA who is a testament that a there is no longer a natural course to fame. From coffee shops, to YouTube, her fame has brought her to winning an MTV O Music Award, being featured as MTV Push Artist, getting placements on GMA, Today Show and even a guesting on The Ellen Show.

Happy holidays to all of you!

  25. hey Everyone!
I’m currently songwriting and singing in a dark folk band called Hello Caller, hailing from Austin, Texas. We’ve been playing shows for about a year now, and we’re in the middle of recording our first full length with producer/engineer John Michael Landon (Okkervil River, Brazos, Crooks). It’s sounding great so far, and we’re really excited to be working with him!
Download our demo for free at our bandcamp page: http://hellocaller.bandcamp.com or you can check out a music video we made at Arthouse during our time at an exhibition which involved local bands rehearsing publicly.
At the moment we’re looking for a vinyl label/pressing house to work with for our first LP, due for release in the summer of 2012.
Give us a shout if you like our sound!
    -Brian

  43. Hi Stephanie! I can certainly identify with your post. I was in the same position as you until a couple of months ago when I took the leap. I quit my job and am a full time student pursuing a masters’s in entertainment business at Full Sail University. It was scary but everyone I know is so supportive and understands that the music business is my passion. I’ve never been happier and have already made some great contacts. Best of luck to you!
p.s.- I checked out Kina and she has a wonderfully pure voice. Thanks for sharing.

  44. Hello everyone,
It’s always so interesting to read through all the different projects everyone that posts here has going on. 2012 is going to be a big year for me. I was fortunate enough to meet Mark Sincavage (@theconcertkid) of Dorado Beach Entertainment (www.doradobeachentertainment.com) and am quite excited to have the opportunity to work with him doing publicity for Kid is Qual (www.kidisqual.com) and Blaise Delfino (www.blaisedelfino.com).
But in the spirit of guilt free promotion, please also check out my husband’s band Judy Tribune. They released their debut album a few months ago at House of Blues Orlando. You can check them out at http://www.judytribune.com.
Happy Holidays and much success to everyone in 2012!

  45. Hey Bruce and Friends!
I’m Carla Lynne Hall, musician and music marketing specialist. Musically, I’ve released 3 indie CDs, and my sound has been described as “Norah Jones meets Sade for tea on their way to visit The Beatles”
On the music marketing side, I’ve written three books, the most recent is Musician’s Roadmap to Facebook and Twitter with Ariel Hyatt.
I’ve just launched a new podcast for musicians, Rock Star Life Lessons, which features interviews such as Mary J Blige on the topic of live performances, Patti LaBelle on vocal health. This week’s podcast (Dec 28th) features an interview with Dr. Eric Maisel on the topic of “Dealing with Rejection”. The podcast can be found on iTunes as well as my blog at http://RockStarLifeLessons.com
The last four years I’ve been focused on the topic of music entrepreneurship, and collecting success stories of indie musicians making a living making music. In January 2012, I will premiere my new 4-part workshop series in NYC called SELL YOUR MUSIC!:

  46. My name is Eszter Skyler and I write songs. I’ve always dreamed of becoming a songwriter so I spent the last couple of years mastering the craft. I’m especially keen on lyric writing. I still learn something new about songwriting every day. I guess it’s a never-ending fun process 🙂
I have a website called http://www.hitjerker-songwriting.com that I created to share my experience with fellow songwriters and also deepen my knowledge.
I also have a blog http://www.eszterskyler.com where I share some of the lyrics I write 🙂
Feel free to drop by and share your thoughts about songwriting and related topics with me!

  47. Hey Carl at Nimbit,
hope this response makes it to you. Carl Wiser at Songfacts.com is someone you want to partner with for your Producers behind the hits. You guys, along with other folks in the biz, would probably create something akin to Wolfgang’s Vault online.

  50. Hey guys,
hope you had Merry Chrimbo 🙂
Thanks to the Hypebot guys and gals for the opportunity to introduce 50K MUSIC (www.50kmusic.com) here.
I’ve started the website almost 3 years ago to support Indie Music. In November 2011 I’ve added a community section (http://www.50kmusic.com/index.php/community). The Community is still small but I hope it will grow and develop to a place to meet for Indie musicians, fans and music lovers. So if you’re looking for place to meet music people away from

  51. I really like that concept – if fans know the money is going to go to the artist there’s greater chance of them being willing to pay a little more. That’s often a reason to buy CDs at gigs rather than online. Nice work!
I’m Nisha – I’m a blogger and live music fan and I work on the digital side for a Creative Music Agency. Nice to meet you Carl. Regular hypebot reader too.

  52. Hey Jacob. I love this idea – there’s so much more to being an artist than just the music side and music’s what artists are in it for after all! Artist Growth seems like a great idea to help with the business side of music for independent musicians.
Look forward to seeing it grow!

  53. Howdy!!!! My name is Monica and I’m looking for a mentor that can teach me about the other lucrative careers in the music business besides being an artist or a manager. I just want to learn what else is out there.
Feel free to hit me up at Monica.Fantastic@trilltalkradio.com. I’m ready to learn.

  54. Hi! My name is Alison, and I’m a 3rd year student at a small liberal arts college in southern California, studying both film and music. I’m a DJ on the local radio station, and worked this last semester as a booking agent for the station, a few surrounding colleges, and some local galleries and venues. I love all things music– radio, technology, licensing, live music, production, the local LA music scene, quality tunes from all genres and decades. I’d love to be a music supervisor (I’ve already had 2 internships in this field) or to work in A&R, but for now I’d just like to gain some experience in any aspect of the music industry. Currently on the hunt for a summer job that will help me garner experience and make connections! Want to know more about me? I’d LOVE to send you my resume, writing samples, a playlist or two, etc.!! Feel free to email me at alison_rosenfeld(at)pitzer(dot)edu or add me on LinkedIn: http://www.linkedin.com/pub/alison-rosenfeld/1b/783/279
    Thanks (:

  55. hi guys, last time I mentioned us we were about to launch, from memory around September this year.
http://wraptinmusic.com/ is an Australian enterprise that helps bring fans who love music & want to help artists together with the artists / their managers who would like the volunteer help from the fans.
We’re the middle ground who makes this happen. On one side we’ve the website, social media & great community of music fans who are happy to volunteer their time to help favourite artists. On the other side, we’ve our clientele, the music industry, who benefits from this amazing resource & are embracing it.
We’re especially beneficial at tour time when a tour needs reliable & experienced merch help throughout Australia – our network of volunteer helpers are widespread & ready to help on any tour – including artists that are touring Australia from overseas, we do have interenational artists on our books as well as Australian artists.
We’re also useful for pre-tour flyering, email signups at gigs or festivals, postering pre a tour, or any online / offline promo that would benefit from a strong community of music fans helping.
We’ve been consistently very busy since day one & are getting plenty of bookings for 2012, it’s going to be a great year for us. If you’d like any more info, we’d love to hear from you.
    thank
    Linda Vesinger (founder)

I am the GM of reddit.com, and have been with them for about 4 years. Before that I worked as head of digital for music/film label Palm Pictures, and also worked with some other indie labels including Mammoth Records back in the day.
Huge hypebot fan and always looking to connect with people working on the intersection of music & social. Planning some big stuff with music on reddit in 2012 (check out http://music.reddit.com if you are not familiar with it). I’m glad to answer any question reddit related.
Also getting back into the industry myself managing a young R&B singer out of SC (http://www.stefonseawright.com) and looking to help him focus on spreading the love through new media.

  59. Hey Jacob,
Great idea, good luck with the launch! Have to say love the teaser video, hope it’s converting well for you. Notice though that the app looks to be US-centric right now, any plans for UK, EUR? I could help with that..
    All the best,

  60. Hello all, hope you all had / having a great Holiday.

  61. Hello,

To everyone, hope you are well coming into the new year. Here’s to the year we make things happen. Cheers!

  63. Hello everybody and Happy New Year!
I first want to say that I freakin’ love Hypebot, is a great resource on information about our industry today, great blog.
My name is Roman Rojas and I’m a music producer/musician in New York City. I spent a few years producing music for tv commercials and other projects. I’m currently getting ready for the release of my band’s first single “Lloraras” through the digital label/music publisher Sunflower Entertainment, the release date is January 16th, 2012.
This is our video promo for the single:

Happy year to all and success in music!

  64. What’s up everybody!
My name is Alvin Coleman. Friends call me
    “Sir Croon”…or just, “Croon”
I am producer, performer, and owner of Colemanation Group Music.
For 2012 I will be releasing my first project, titled CENTURIES. This will be a very significant independant work.
Centuries will be ready for release and marketing in February.
I look forward to your support and review.
    My mantra is:
“It’s never too late to reach your goal!”

  65. I’m Scott Wilson, a San Diego singer/songwriter, and my music mantra for 2012 is “Promote” because of all the comments on that Tunecore blog that said if you’re not a success in the music industry then it’s your own damn fault, which was ironically Will Farrell’s mantra in Land of the Lost. I’m finishing a video for my song Yoga Girl this week, and you can see a promo for it at http://www.youtube.com/metapunker
For more info go to http://www.metalogicmusic.com

  66. Hey there! My name is Evan and I’m only 16 but I’ve found a love in making music. My main instrument is the electric bass, though I now own an upright as well and love playing jazz tunes with friends. My main goal for 2011 had been to make a few beats I could be proud of to show people what I can do. Now my goal for 2012 is to take these beats and invite some people to be on them and release a mixtape or two. All of your stories here really inspire me as well. You can find some of my stuff on my sound cloud http://soundcloud.com/drumandjazz or get at me on twitter! (@evancalz)

  67. Darryl Reeves here!
I’m a saxophonist in Atlanta, GA. My music is a blend of jazz, funk, hip-hop and any other inspiration that seeps its way into the music. I’ve performed and toured with many notable acts, though I’m not here to namedrop. 😉
Here are clips of my band.
    http://youtu.be/kak_nJAts_s
    http://youtu.be/O_rcDttu784
    http://youtu.be/6bZMhyzLNuA
We are finishing up a new album under my name entitled “Mercury”. We plan on releasing it in March 2012.
I’m an avid reader of hypebot. I’ve been a music biz fanatic over the last 10 years. At one time I bought about 40-50 “how to” books on the music business, all to end up shedding most of them due to the info becoming quickly outdated. Now, one of my first morning activities along with listening to music is reading hypebot/musicthinktank/digitalmusicnews. There is a wealth of valuable info to the indie artist and I’m glad to take part in this movement.
My 3-word mantra for this is, “Let’s Do It!!!!!!”
    Nice to meet you all!
    Darryl Reeves

  68. Happy New Year!
I’m Chris from http://www.BeingArtists.com the soon to be launched site for artists and their fans. It’s an ambitious project that’s aim is to become a destination where artists (of all types) will be showcased, promoted, engaged by fans, sell merchandise and build a community that cares.
Too much to say here so, please, check out our ‘coming soon’ page. Would love to have your opinions, suggestions and comments or if you would like to be included in our resources directory for artists.
You may contact me at chris@beingartists.com

  70. Greetings and Happy New Year!!
My name is MJ Mynarski and I’m an old school film composer and songwriter.
My film music is mostly recorded with live orchestral ensembles although I’m adept with all the latest technologies.
I was composer for the film HOLY ROLLERS starring Jesse Eisenberg. In addition to the score I wrote 5 songs including “Darkness Before the Dawn” which was on the shortlist for the Best Original Song Academy Award. I’ve composed music for over 2 dozen film projects including AMERICAN PSYCHO.
As a songwriter I often collaborate with lyricists and singers and singing lyricists.
I’m new to the whole social networking thing and look forward to making new friends and connections this year. I’m also planning to give a couple of lectures on the aesthetics and practical use of music in film in LA this year.

  71. Hi! My name is Sajada Wilson. I’m a singer/songwriter in mostly Christian/Gospel music. I’m 47 and beginning again in music. I’m also a student at http://www.songu.com. My music heroes are Sharon Jones, Susan Boyle, Georgette Jones, Qristyl Frazier, Martha Wash, Joyce Meyer, Linda Kosut, Alice Tan-Ridley, Leroy bell, Josh Krajik, Dexter Haygood and Stacy Francis and any other artist who either started later or is starting over again. In 2012 I’m going to enter the RPM Challenge, create a mixtape, build a website, create a YouTube video and finally create a full fledged cd project. I also want to learn as much about the music business circa 2010’s as possible. Most of all I’d like to meet as many people as I can.

  72. I forgot to say what my mantra for 2012 is:
Dream, Believe and Do it Afraid but do it!!!!
I just want to say to anyone of any age but especially to those of us who are older to dream (It’s okay to keep on dreaming), believe it’s okay to believe that you can make it (maybe not in the way a 20 year old might make it, but on your own terms and in your own way). And get out there and do it (write songs, create a website, perform live, create a mixtape or cd and sellit online , create YouTube and any other kind of video, go to school, network and maybe even win a Grammy or an American Music Award or any other kind of award for your music! Just do it!!!!!! That’s my mantra!!!!

  73. Happy new year everyone. Big thanks to Hypebot for keeping me up-to-date as always.
Composer/songwriter here, hoping to break-out in 2012. Of course, I have a few things working against me building a true fan base: I’m in the wrong part of the U.S. (Eastern N. Carolina) writing the wrong kind of music for this area (electronic/electro-pop/electronic soundtrack)! I’m also trying to figure out how my studio-based electro-pop music will work in a live setting. I get nightmares just thinking about it.
I released an EP of original holiday music called “Christmas Lake” in December for free.
I’m working on new concept album fusing the public domain poetry of Sara Teasdale (1884-1933) with electronic pop music. It’s a unique mix of old and new I think many will enjoy.
To keep up-to-date on this project, check out the links below. Best of luck in the new year and keep making/promoting/producing great music!
