According to the official count, SXSW 2012 has attracted 500 bands traveling from 45 countries. The team at wireless hi-fi creators Sonos has done the research and created two maps – one global and the other the U.S. – mapping where they cone from. Where Do The Bands At SXSW Come From? Yes this is wrong. There are 30 bands going from the Kansas City area and the states of Missouri and Kansas are blank.

This is cool, but yes, it is incorrect… I have three North Carolina artists playing an official showcase and I know of at least two more NC artists playing official shows. All of which are listed as official on the SXSW schedule… But honestly… I’m amazed SXSW can even remotely keep up with all of this! This thing has gotten enormous!

They are obviously only including the bands that are playing official SXSW showcases. There are of course hundreds and hundreds of bands that will be playing parties that aren’t sponsored by SXSW.
