Live Nation Acquires Setlist.fm
Live Nation Entertainment has acquired Setlist.fm, a community of music fans who collect and share concert set lists online. No details of the transaction were revealed, but the move is likely linked to the concert giant's expanded online consumer and data initiatives which include the recent Big Champagne purchase and a ramped up Live Nation Labs team.
Setlist.fm has built a database of more than 400,000 set lists for 24,000 artists in more than 70,000 venues around the world and reaches more than 1.5 million music fans monthly. The archive spans decades of global live music history, from the 1950s to present. According to the announcement, Setlist.fm will ne used create a more interactive fan experience within the Live Nation community which includes LiveNation.com and Ticketmaster.com.
A missed opportunity for collection societies like PRS or the spanish SGAE, who could have done a great lot with a service like that: no more collecting setlists from bands (huge paperwork reduction), and paying them what is really due (and not what they declare).
Good point, but they have to do something to catch up with new ticket companies like http://frontrowtickets.com who have much better maps.
