There are effective ways to use your email list and then there is spam. On Music Think Tank, Jeremy Belcher shares an example of how NOT to use an email list. He talks about what the artist did right and wrong in sending out the email.

“All in all, when you send an email to fans, it’s important to consider your audience. Don’t spam people! It’s ok to ask for help, but do it in a way that doesn’t impose on your fans or is full of over aggressive sales talk.”
