Shinedown To Release Companion iBook On The Making Of Their New Album Amaryllis
Though Shinedown is not the first to create an album-related iBook project, they do seem to be the first to have a large budget to create an iBook about every possible aspect of an album. The ebook is described as a "companion piece" to Shinedown's upcoming release Amaryllis. It's composed of multiple sections that describe the making of the album, the background of the band, each individual song and the connection to the album cover art.
Shinedown's lead singer and songwriter Brent Smith describes the ebook and album combo as a return to the "full experience that you get by exploring physical CDs or vinyl albums." He relates:
"I remember picking up Soundgarden’s Superunknown. For me, it’s a perfect example of an album that does an amazing job at connecting the artwork and packaging to the actual music."
For Your Sake: Inside the Making of Shinedown's Amaryllis
Mike Mignano, Director, Digital Product Development at Atlantic Records, gives an overall description of the ebook, titled "For Your Sake: Inside the Making of Shinedown's Amaryllis," and its relationship to the album Amaryllis.
For Your Sake, designed by graphic artist Edith Levin, is said to be around 100 pages and is organized in four sections including a Foreward written by the unnamed (in the video) A&R that signed them to the label back in the day.

I pretty sure that no more than 100 of these will be sold. And as for Mike Mignano, he uses the word interactive very loosely. If his thought of interactive is tapping a picture to make it larger and pinching to make it smaller, a simplistic iOS feature, then we all know why majors record labels are failing. There is no innovation here. This is simply a glorified digibook– and those used to come free with purchasing a record if I remember correctly.
It’s the return of Lack of Perspective.
Technically it’s a correct use of the term interactive, no matter how lackluster.
