7Digital Adds $10M, Expands Digital Music Offering
7Digital announced yesterday that it's added $10 million from two public technology companies, along with an updated corporate look and several new services. 7Digital offers a blend of digital music services including downloads, streaming and mobile apps both direct to consumers, as well as, developers and global partners like Toshiba, Samsung, RIM and HTC.
At a press conference celebrating growth,and the new investment, CEO Ben Drury took a thinly veiled shot at Apple: "Unlike some companies that I won't name, we believe that music which people buy anywhere should be available to them everywhere." To further that mission, the company unveiled new cloud based music lockers that include scan and match technology and streaming functionality.
7Digtal delivers music to 60 million smartphones, tablets, connected
audio devices and smart TVs and their Android app has been downloaded 3
million times, according to the company. The 7Digital open API powers 250 music services.
