Google Finally Adds Warner Music, Brings Scan & Match To Free Music Locker In U.S. & Europe
(UPDATE 2) Google is adding scan and match service when it's Google Play music download store and free music locker launch in Europe on November 13th. Scan and match will also launch in the U.S. soon after, according to the company. Matched songs will automatically be added to the users online locker without the need to upload it.
A long sought after new deal with Warner Music Group finally allowed Google to add scan and match.
"In order to have a successful store, people need to be able to seamlessly add their purchases to their preexisting collection," Zahavah Levine, Dr. Of Android Content Partnerships told Billboard. "People need to access their existing collections. We need one ecosystem." Some U.S. users may already be able to access scan and match.
"We’ll scan your music collection and any song we match against the Google Play catalog will be automatically added to your online library without needing to upload it, saving you time," according to Andy Rubin, Google's SVP Mobile & Digital Content. " This will all be for free – free storage of your music (up to 20,000 songs), free matching, free syncing across your devices and free listening."
