CD Baby Slashes Rates For Direct Digital Sales
CD
Baby has lowered the rates it charges artists for download sales from it's online
retail store from 25% to 9%. Several top digital music distributors and retailers are have lowered fees in recent weeks. iTunes and Amazon each charge artists and labels 30%. CD Baby says their new rates are the lowest of any digital music retailer and direct to fan provider.
CDBaby's new 9% rate extends to digital sales through all of CD Baby’s
Direct-to-Fan sales tools including CD Baby MusicStore For
Facebook Apps, and Music Store
Widgets that allow CD Baby artists to sell music on their own websites. CD
Baby’s admin fee for digital sales through its retail partners including
Spotify, iTunes, Amazon, Rdio, and others
has been at 9% since 2004.
Last week Corinthian Capital sold their majority stake in AVL Digital Group, parent company of CD Baby,
Disc Makers, HostBaby, and BookBaby to Stephens Capital Partners, a private
equity group based in Little Rock, AR.
Good news! That allows fellow CDBaby Artists such as myself to either reap a larger cut of the proceeds, or reduce our price point on mp3s sold via CDBaby to encourage the purchase of music via CDBaby instead of iTunes or Amazon. Next what we need is the ability to permit fans to download FLAC files if they want to instead of mp3.
CD Baby would be smart to listen to you FLAC idea.
After $49 per album, $9.95 per single.
…horrible service, CD trashing, check fees and general lameness. 11 years as a artist/customer, but no more greedy baby!
