I Fight Dragons Case Study: 1 Song, 7.5 Writers, 18+ Versions & Major Label Rejection [VIDEO]
The music of I Fight Dragons is a combination of pop and rock with chiptune, featuring electronic sounds made using Nintendo Game Boys. Atlantic Records thought enough of the band to sign them in 2011 and they were on the entire 2012 Warped tour. Along the way, they also encountered their fair share of music industry craziness; including, at the label's request having 7.5 writers create 18 versions of the same song, only to reject it. This video tells the band's story with a surprising lack of bitterness:
i think many would really like to hear more new music . maybe they might really like it lot .
Cool stuff … it’s kind of like on the Logical song off of the “Breakfast in America” album by SuperTramp.
There is this little sound effect and I think it was the mattel digital handheld football game sound when the red dot gets tackled. That game came out in 1977
Let me guess, they had to recoup the cost of that bullshit from their own revenue?
They were on Photo Finish Records, by the way.
Oh, to be a fly on the wall in THAT A&R meeting. Was it Matt Galle A&R’ing?
Yeah that was pretty cool.
LOL – it’s not you. Song’s great. I’m sure some of the other version were too.
