A recent update of the Pew Research Centre's ongoing study of who uses social media offered insights into Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, Pinterest and Instagram. All social networks are not created equal, and depending on who you're trying to reach, you may want to reconfigure your social media strategy. The study's top takeaways:
- City dwellers are more likely than those in rural areas to be on Twitter
- Women are 5X more likely as men to use Pinterest
- Blacks and Hispanics are heavier users than whites of Instagram

very interesting. my only complaint is that i wish the demographic would have included more teens–there seem to be a lot of kids using instagram.

Pinterest is booming female users as more and more visual learning is easy and new fashion products as well.
Actually that study shows people age 13-18. This study shows people 18-65.
I never even heard of Instagram before.
