Songkick Concerts Upgrades iPhone App, Adds In-App Ticket Sales
Songick has released a major upgrade to it's free iPhone concert tracking app. It's the first upgrade to the app since a 2011 launch, and includes in-app ticket purchases with push notifications announcing availability.
The addtion of in-app ticketing points to Songkick's monetization strategy, as well as, how it plans to compete with the Live Nation/Ticketmaster concert/ticketing behemoth and it's Live Nation Labs tech initiatives.
The upgrade also adds improved music library scans and more control over tracked artists. Not included is Songkick's much anticipated beta-stage tour crowdfunding service Detour. An upgrade the Songkick Android app seems likely, but has not been announced.
Songkick continues to syndicate concert listings to dozens of major sites including Yahoo!, the BBC and YouTube, making it an imporant tool for touring artists.
The Songkick app upgrade requires iOS 5 or above, and is available now.
