Facebook Slips To #2 Social Network For Teens [CHART]
Facebook has lost its crown as the most popular social network for American teenagers, according to Piper Jaffray's biannual survey among thousands of U.S. teens. The world's largest social network has been replaced by Twitter. Facebook's popularity with teens has been trending downwards for a while as Twitter, Instagram and Tumblr have gained traction.
Given the numbers shown in the Statista chart below, Facebook's decision to acquire Instagram appears smart in retrospect, as the photo sharing platform is proving very popular with a younger audience.
It’ll be fascinating to see what platform this teen generation uses in their mid-20’s when they don’t have anyone left to “re-connect” with.
Facebook is going to get worse and worse as people are now running out of personal contacts and are liking brands and projects, at a faster rate. This means that Facebook will eventually tune our friends out, and will be nothing more than a voluntary advertising funnel. Facebook needs to find a way to limit the ratio of content coming from brands (with their SM management platforms) and focus more on content from actual people we know, otherwise we will see an exodus away from Facebook in the very near future.
