There’s Still Time For Your Band To Apply For American Music Abroad
American Music Abroad is a cultural exchange and live music performance program that sends U.S. artists on tour for a bit over a month. All "characteristically American musical genres are welcome" including indie rock, punk, hip hop and Zydeco. The program is limited to groups of 3 to 5 people. The deadline for initial application is January 6 at 5 pm PST. That's not a lot of time but if you have high quality videos available and fit the guidelines you've still got time to prepare a competitive application.
American Music Abroad (via Music Row) sends American trios, quartets and quintets on tour to connect cultures and, obviously, build good will for the U.S.
The program is a "partnership between American Voices and the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs." Participation includes a pre-tour program for a school or community center in Washington, DC.
This is a paid tour and a great opportunity to expand your perspective on who your audience might be:
"The U.S. Department of State funds international travel, hotels and meals. In addition, a modest tour honorarium of $200 per day spent on the road is awarded to each individual musician in an ensemble."
More details are available including such important info as:
"Most tours will last for approximately 35 days making compensation per musicians approximately $7000."
"Touring musicians, when abroad, are covered by a standard State Department medical and accident coverage."
