Beats Music Sets MOG Shutdown Date, MOG Founder Joins Chosen.fm
UPDATED: The demise of MOG's music service has been inevitable since it was purchased a year ago by Beats Electronics. But today's launch of Beats Music set the final clock ticking. A new post on MOG provides the timetable:
"The MOG service will remain live until April 15, after which it will be shut down, and MOG will stop accepting shortly after Beats Music goes live. Monthly billing will cease on March 15, and all yearly subscriptions will be refunded on a prorated basis. Our goal is to convert as many MOG subscribers to Beats Music as possible. As part of that effort, all existing MOG subscribers will be offered a one-month free trial of Beats Music, which will be made available starting March 15."
Responding to questions from USA Today, Beats said that MOG subscribers would be transferred to Beats Music in the next 90 days and MOG would be phased out over the coming months.
MOG Founder to Chosen.fm
MOG founder and former Garcenote CEO David Hyman has joined stealth mobile startup Cosen.fm. In a statement the company described itself as “a mobile application company focused on changing how we interact and engage with the performing arts.”
“Chosen is right up my alley,” Hyman said in the press release. “Music is my passion and I see this as an exciting opportunity to expand my interests into video and the broader spectrum of the performing arts. Moreover, I’m thrilled to have a brilliant engineering team working out of Israel and expand the team with additional business expertise from the States. It’s a wonderful hybrid.”
