image from a2.aastatic.comLong before there was Pandora or iHeart Radio, there was AccuRadio. Today the online radio pioneer and its CEO Kurt Hanson announced the company has raised a “Series A” round of $2.5 million from L.A.-based NantWorks.

AccuRadio differentiates itself from Pandora and others by targeting upscale, educated, at-work 35-64 year olds with personalizable online radio based on 1,000 channels across all genres.

The funds will primarily be used to market AccuRadio to a larger audience.

“We’re delighted to finally be able to bring PR and marketing support to our product,” says Hanson who also publishes the popular Radio And Internet News (RAIN) blog. “AccuRadio has industry-leading measures of customer satisfaction, including Average Time Spent Listening in Webcast Metrics and its iOS and Android app."

AccuRadio is also a two-time winner of the Webby Awards’ “People’s Voice” award for Best Radio.
