Amazon Celebrates Big Holiday Season. Shares Most Popular Music
In typical Amazon fashion, the retail giant shared some vague holiday "statistics" they say show consumers embracing online purchasing and digital consumption with increasing zeal. More than 10 million worldwide took advantage of a free trial to use Amazon's Prime services for the first time, for example. 60% of all Amazon purchases this season were made on mobile, according to the company, who also shared some holiday musical milestones:
- Prime Music users streamed Christmas by Michael Bublé; Greatest Hits by Journey; All the Little Lights by Passenger most often
- CD buyers preferred That’s Christmas to Me by Pentatonix; 1989 by Taylor Swift; Frozen Karaoke from Disney's Karaoke Series
- MP3 buyers most often downloaded That's Christmas To Me by Pentatonix; 1989 by Taylor Swift; Sonic Highways by Foo Fighters
Amazon also touted the popularity of All Is Bright, its first-ever exclusive playlist of newly-recorded holiday songs available for listening exclusively on its Prime Music service. All Is Bright features performances of holiday favorites, rarities and newly-written songs from extraordinary artists including Ashley Monroe, Brandi Carlile, Jessie Baylin, Liz Phair, Lucinda Williams, Yoko Ono with the Flaming Lips and others.
