Julia Wolfe Wins 2015 Pulitzer Prize For Music
Composer Julia Wolfe has won the Pulitzer Prize for music for her latest choral work, "Anthracite Fields." Described by the Pulitzer judges as a "powerful oratorio for chorus and sextet," the work mines the musical and folklore tapestry of Pennsylvania coal-mining life around the turn of the 20th Century.
Composer Julia Wolfe has won the Pulitzer Prize for music for her choral work, "Anthracite Fields." Previous works from Wolfe include 2007's orchstral composition "Fuel" and the 2009 choral/orchestral composition "Steel Hammers" which also explored traditional Appalachin music.
The other finalists in the category were Lei Liang for "Xiaoxiang" and John Zorn for "The Aristos."
