BMG Buys 3rd U.S. Label: Steve Greenberg’s S-Curve Records
Despite taking Janet Jackson to #1, BMG insists it's a music company, not a record label. Whatever they call their own business, BMG is not adverse to buying other people's labels, which they've done for the third time with S-Curve Records.
New model music company BMG has acquired the recording and publishing assets of New York pop label S-Curve Records. As part of the deal, S-Curve Founder and President, Steve Greenberg and general manager Milo Pacheco will join BMG to help develop the company’s mainstream pop offering.
S-Curve is the third US label acquired by BMG following Los Angeles-based Vagrant Records and Portland, Oregon’s Rise Records. S-Curve’s roster includes multi-platinum pop artist Andy Grammer. His last album Magazines Or Novels was a Top 20 hit in the US with the single ‘Honey I’m Good’ ranking among the top 10 best-selling singles of 2015, according to Soundscan.
"Artists are not happy with the status quo, and many of them find BMG’s core values of fairness, transparency and service very attractive indeed," said BMG US President Creative & Marketing Laurent Hubert. "The success of Janet Jackson demonstrates there is now no level or genre of artist which is beyond our reach.”
Last month, Janet Jackson’s Unbreakable became the first album released by the new BMG to reach #1 on the Billboard 200 album chart. Earlier in September, BMG scored simultaneous Top 10 entries with Iron Maiden’s The Book Of Souls and Scarface’s Deeply Rooted.
