Personal Fan Data Revealed During Songkick’s Adele Concert Pre-Sale
Technology creates new options to reward fans. But when it goes wrong, as it seems to have during an overloaded Adele fan club pre-sale, that same tech runs the risk of damaging the artist/fan relationship.
Members of Adele's fan club were offered the chance to by advance tickets to her European concert tour this morning. But during the checkout process some fans were shown other people's shopping baskets, including some payment details.
While its not clear what level of personal information or credit card details were visible, the security breach "most likely occurred due to insecure coding on the booking website," online security firm Checkmarx tells Hypebot.
Concert ticket tracker and sale site Songkick, who were handling the Adele pre-sale, released this statement:
Due to extreme load experienced this morning, some of our customers were incorrectly able to preview limited account information belonging to other customers.
There’s no evidence that this included credit card numbers or passwords. We take the privacy of our users very seriously, and we’re looking further into the matter to ensure it doesn’t happen again.
