Spotify’s Year in Music 2014
As the year comes to a close, Spotify combs through the listening habits of its 50 some million global users, revealing the most popular songs and artists of 2014. Ed Sheeran came in as Spotify's most-streamed artist of 2014. Pharrell Williams earned his place in the rankings with his hit single "Happy" which claimed the most-streamed track in the world. Aligning with Vevo's recent accouncement of Iggy Azalea's "Fancy" being the most watched video of 2014, Spotify announces "Fancy" as the top streamed track in the US. With much to celebrate, Spotify has chosen to do so by offering Premium streaming for 3 months for only $0.99 throughout December.
"Spotify’s Year in Music looks back at 2014’s soundtrack, which saw more than 50 million Spotify users listen to over seven billion hours of music and create more than 733 million playlists. UK singing sensation Ed Sheeran was crowned the most streamed artist of 2014, racking up more than 860 million listens across the globe this year on Spotify. Ed also holds the title for the most streamed album for x, which fans have enjoyed more than 430 million times since its release in June. This was also the year Katy Perry unseated Rihanna as the most-streamed female on Spotify. Although Rihanna held the title for the past two years, Katy’s Dark Horse spent 11 weeks at #1 on Spotify’s US Top 50 chart, the longest run in the top spot of 2014."
With gratitude to Spotify, Hozier who's rock hit "Take Me To Church" landed him the Most Viral Track of the Year, said, "Thank you so much to my fans for listening to the music and sharing it with people. Spotify was a big part of getting the music across the world as quickly as it did and as a new artist, that's invaluable. So thank you for listening and thank you for sharing with your friends."
