Spotify Turns Your Friends Into DJs With New “Top Tracks In Your Network” Playlist
A new Spotify feature harneseses what we've long known is the most powerful avenue for music discovery – your friends. Users can noe track what their freinds are listening in several ways including "Top Tracks in Your Network," a new chart and playlist that shows the most played songs among people you follow.
“One out of every five Spotify streams comes from a user listening to another user’s music, whether that’s checking out an artist you saw your friend listening to, or seeing that your gym buddy has created the perfect workout playlist,” says Charlie Hellman, VP of Product at Spotify.
Refreshed daily, the new chart is in Spotify's browser section under Top Lists. A drop down list of people listening to the song can be found next to the track details. To further encourage friend-to-firend discovery, Spotify is also sprinking "who else is listening" throughout the service. When you go to an artist or album you’ll also see who’s been listening.
Top Tracks in Your Network begins rolling out today on iOS and Android platforms, and to desktop "soon". The updated album and artist pages are now available on desktop, with a mobile update arriving in the coming weeks.
P.S. To Musicians and Music Marketers:
Playlisting your songs on Spotify just got even more important.
