Let’s Disqus, Shall We?

For those of you who are wondering if the new girl knows how to spell, I do, I promise – I just have a couple questions for you those of you who loyally read our articles… in silence. For the amount of daily page views, you seem to be a relatively closed lip audience, so we've been toying with various ways to break the ice and drive community conversation amongst Hypebot.com readers like yourself. We figure if you're browsing, reading, and moving right along, we've got to be doing something wrong, so today, we turned to Disqus and we want to know what you think.

"Disqus is a free service that enables great online communities. As the web's most popular discussion system, Disqus is used by millions of websites that cover pretty much any topic imaginable. Out magic is in connecting people to stuff worth talking about." – Discus.com

Things We Like:

  • Threaded Replies – There's always that one person that insists on hitting "Reply All" unnecessarily – and inevitably, repeatedly. No more of that. You can respond directly to one comment, or address the group.
  • Personalized Gravatars: Disqus pulls in information and images based on email addresses which allows for a personal identity to be associated with your response whether or not you have a Disqus account.
  • Multi-Platform Integration: Disqus integrates seamlessly with Facebook & Twitter and allows login through Open ID, etc.
  • Comment Subscriptions: Say you're incredibly interested in a specific post, topic, or discussion but you have a real job like the rest of us and can't sit around all day constantly reloading the page. You can subscribe to the conversation and catch up when it's convenient for you.

Things We're Not Sure About:

  • Do you like that it's more personal?
  • Do you like that you can address individuals individually?
  • Would you utilize the ability to subscribe to conversations?
  • Would you be more inclined to join the conversation knowing you wouldn't have to sign up for yet another account only to forget your password weeks from now?
