Exec In Charge Of Launching YouTube Music Service Exits For Spotify
YouTube's executive for consumer products, Shiva Rajaraman (pictured left), has exited the Googleplex for Spotify. One of Rajaraman's chief responsibilities in recent months has been YouTube's yet to launch subscription music service. Recently, YouTube's just resigned product head began consulting for Spotify, and a member of Google's inner circle just joined Spotify's board of directors.Job shifting and incestuous ties are common in high tech, but at the very least, to an outsider these moves seem ill-timed.
“Shiva has done so much to help grow YouTube into what it is today. We wish him all the best, and know that the team he has put in place will continue to serve all our creators and viewers exceptionally well” was all a YouTube spokesperson would tell Re/Code.
Spotify has declined to comment.
