YouTube Delays Indie Label Block As Talks Continue
The public effort by independent music trade groups on both sides of the Atlantic seems to have had an impact. New reports have YouTube delaying any plans to takedown or stop monetizing videos from some independent labels as serious talks continue. Merlin is said to be leading the negotiations on behalf of the indies.
Trade groups WIN, Impala, A2IM and others have asked their respective trade commissions to investigate and block any moves by Google and YouTube to intimidate or harm member labels.
Now the Finacial Times is reporting that YouTube's plans have been put on temporary hold, while talks to satisfy the hodlouts. This week a YouTube spokesperson put the holdouts at less than 5% of the labels it serves.
