SoundCloud Responds To Wave Of Criticism

image from www.mixmag.netUntil recently, SoundCloud had an almost flawless reputation within the independent music community. But that changed in the last week after SoundCloud released an app "upgrade" that eliminated many of the features that musicians valued and critical statements from artists who said their tracks had been unfairly deleted from the service at the request of Universal Music. Yesterday, SoundCloud responded:

"As a responsible hosting platform, we work hard to ensure that everyone's rights are respected. In the case of rights holders, that means having processes in place to ensure that any content posted without authorisation is removed quickly and efficiently.

In the case of users, that means having separate processes in place to ensure that any content removed in error can be reinstated equally quickly. If any user believes that content has been removed in error – for example, because they had the necessary permissions from Universal Music and/or any other rights holder – then they are free to dispute the takedown."

  1. Universal better fk off with their take down bullshit otherwise they are going to piss off their customers. This unrestricted access to SoundCloud data move they’ve pulled is all I need to permanently add Universal to my “do not support” list (right under EA Sports). SoundCloud… Smarten up or you’re next.. P.s. if SoundCloud strays too far from their original operating model, someone else will step up and fill the void.
